If you have ever checked out the prices of
Hydroponics grow closets, then you know that they can cost you a ton of
money. Yes they come with everything you need to grow, but with a
little bit of leg work you can save yourself thousands
of dollars or more.
There are two types of gardens you can have. There
is the soil garden or the hydroponics garden. Depending on your point
of view, one or the other is the best type of garden. I like the
hydroponics garden. It is faster (a grow cycle is 2 ½
months), cleaner (no dirt), and more productive (since it grows faster
you get more plants per year), than the soil garden.Hydroponics does
take more attention, but that’s part of the
enjoyment. Watching the plants grow, that’s what
it’s all about.
In a soil garden, there is as many if not more
things to worry about as with a hydroponics garden. You have to get
pots for each plant, this takes up more space. You have to transplant
every so often. You have to bring the soil into the house (messy), when
you’re done you have to take out the soil, then you have to
dispose of it. You can’t use the same soil over; this creates
new problems if you do.
By using an indoor closet for growing, you can
by-pass dealing with the outdoor climate. Severe weather can take out a
crop in a very short period. You won’t have to deal with
outdoor predators, such as insects, animals, or people.
I have been researching grow closets since 2003,
in all that time I have found that it was so expensive to buy one that
I could build one for a fraction of the price. I started building them
from scratch, but found it was easier to start with a ready to assemble
wardrobe cabinet, then fill it yourself.
I have had so many friends and associates ask me to
build them a grow closet, that I decided to make my plans available to
everyone. These plans are an accumulation of my years of research, in
how to build a hydroponics grow closet.
If you have all the money in the world, you should
probably go ahead and buy the ready built grow closet, but if
you’re like most people you don’t have all the
money in the world, so you need this information. Follow the simple
steps and you will have a grow closet, that looks as good as a ready
built, and works as well if not better than a ready built.
Learn whether to buy or
build your grow closet, based on the time you have and the money you
are willing to spend.
Find out the best closet to buy, so you don't make
the mistake of getting a closet that does not fit in your living space,
or worse yet, won't work for your growing needs
Your options are many if you build a closet. You
have the choice of size, shape, wood you use, thickness of wood, one
door or two, what size, and what kind of hinges you use.
Finishing the inside is easy. Drill some holes,
actually, quite a few holes. The holes are for the vents, the light,
the pulleys, and the tie down cleats.
Discover why the hydroponics is the meat of the
system. Why the fast grow rate would not be possible without it.
I will educate you on the finer points of a drip
system. This is a unique set-up I have come up with. Find out why it
takes the least amount of maintenance.
Now it's done, I will show you how to make a test
run. Show you what you need to check.
Let
me take you deeper into each of the above points. I will explain in
more detail how this set-up I put together is the way to grow, more,
faster, and in very little space.
You Won't Have to Worry About Whether
You Should Buy Your Closet or Build It
There are always two sides of an issue that needs to be resolved. Below
are some points that may help you decide.
Both have their
advantages, it depends on how much room you have to work with and how
much skill you have as a carpenter.
When you buy your closet, all you have to do is
assemble it, and cut a few holes in it.
When you build, you will need more tools, and help
from a buddy or another person.
The advantage is you can make it any size you want.
If you have a lot of room, but still want that
inconspicuous closet, then a custom built cabinet is the way to go. If
space is limited you probably want to go buy a closet.
If You Want to Keep It Simple, This
is the Best Closet to Buy
Once you have decided to buy a closet, read these
tips, they will help you in your decision. These tips will give you an
idea of what you want in a grow closet.
The best closet is
not really even a closet. It is called a wardrobe cabinet. This size
closet will fit in most places.
It gives you a footprint on the floor that is 2ft x
4 ft, the total height is 6ft.
The wardrobe cabinets are usually made from
melamine, that white plastic cover over pressed wood.
This saves you from having to paint.
A purchased closet allows you to bring it home and
assemble it in the room you will put this it in.
You
can see that it is easier to buy a closet. It takes less time,
material, and skill. If you are limited in space, this is the way to
go. This is the way I would go. Quick, neat, and easy, what else could
you ask for?
Some of the Things You Need to Know
If You Build It Yourself
The
type of closet you should build if you are going to build one is the
same kind you would build in woodshop 101 in school. It's your basic
box with doors. Check out these points below, they will give you a
better insight into what is involved in building your own closet.
You must be the
ambitious type, if you are going to build your closet.
You will be able to use material of your choice.
Including hinges and knobs.
You will be able to build as big a closet as you
like.
Plywood comes in 4x8 sheets, so design your closet
accordingly.
You can make it fit in any little nook or cranny
you have.
If
a custom size is what you want, then build your own closet. If you want
to just go to the store and buy a closet, and size doesn't matter, then
buy a wardrobe cabinet or something similar. They are available at your
local Home Depot or Lowe's.
Learn the Mysteries of "The Inside"
Below
are the tips and tricks to installing the main components of the grow
closet. I'm sure you could figure it out, but why? I'll show exactly
what to do.
It's just the
inside, you say.
You will learn where to cut the vent holes, where
and how to install the fan.
Don't forget the thermometer, one of the most
important items you will get.
Most important of all is the light, I will not only
tell you how to hang the light, I will tell you how to wire it and tie
it off.
The magnetic catches, they keep the doors closed,
so the light stays in.
These
items are all the little steps you will need to know to complete the
inside of the closet. Once you are done here, you are ready for the
meat of the system, the hydroponics.
Hydroponics, the Key to the Fastest
Grow System There Is
This
particular hydroponics system is quite unique in that it is completely
contained. No muss, no fuss. Follow the steps, and you will have
amazing results.
The hydroponics system is not hard as long as you
follow the instructions that are laid out.
If you can put together Tinker Toys or Lincoln
logs, you can build this.
It looks like a twin burner rocket ship, but it is
not rocket science.
Fill-up the reservoir and walk away for a few days.
See
how easy this is. You followed my instructions and lo and behold you
have a hydroponics watering system. Now for the water, or in this case,
it's nutrients.
This Drip System Requires Little or
No Maintenance
Use
this system for one grow cycle and you will never want to hear about
ebb and flow systems or wick systems again.
The drip system is
one of the easiest hydroponics systems to maintain.
There is less chance of floods than with other
hydroponics systems.
In this particular set-up there is very little
chance of floods at all, only with operator error.
This set-up also allows you to increase the amount
of water the plants get as they get bigger.
When
you use this drip system you will see what I'm talking about. You will
see how clean and easy it is to use. You will learn why zip ties were
invented, just kidding. You will be using a lot of zip ties.
